Overseas Koreans Agency adds two staff to counter cyber threats

The Overseas Koreans Agency said it is adding two officials to strengthen defenses against personal data leaks and cyberattacks on government systems.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs amended the agency's organizational rules to create one sixth-grade position for privacy protection and another for information security. The revision raises the total staff count from 190 to 192, with general civil servants increasing from 141 to 143 and officials in technical and diplomatic tracks growing from four to six. These additions specifically target administrative, industrial, facility, computing, and driving director roles, as well as third- and fourth-grade consular and foreign information technology positions.

While the rule change takes effect immediately upon promulgation, the adjustment to the main staffing table is scheduled to begin Oct. 1. Until Sept. 30, the agency will apply interim staffing provisions under the new regulations to bridge the transition period.
