Government legislation ministry creates legal education team in reorganization

The government legislation ministry said Friday it is creating a legal education operations team and expanding its long-term training programs, one of 84 statutes and rules taking effect in October.

The new team will sit under the director of the legal information support bureau and run long-term and intensive legal education courses, manage commissioned training for local governments and public institutions, and operate collaborative programs with other agencies. It will exist until Oct. 18, 2029.

The reorganization also adjusts the work of the ministry's legal interpretation bureau and its legal advisory coordination officer to match the government-wide reshuffle that created the Serious Crime Investigation Agency and the Public Prosecution Office. The Serious Crime Investigation Agency Act, the Public Prosecution Office Act, the Government Organization Act and related organizational rules took effect on the same day.

The ministry, headed by Minister Cho Won-chul, said a total of 84 statutes and rules take effect in October.

Most of the changes take effect on the day of promulgation, with the provisions covering the education team taking effect Oct. 19. Under a budget rule on organizations created with total personnel cost ceilings, the team's leader will handle its duties until the expiration date; if no special provision is made by then, the head of the legal education division will take over from the following day.

The changes came through a partial revision to the enforcement rules of the ministry's organization, promulgated and effective on Oct. 2.
