The food and drug safety ministry said it will hold a digital medical device regulatory briefing in Daejeon on Aug. 20 to help early-stage companies and aspiring entrepreneurs understand requirements and speed product development.

The third briefing in the ministry's outreach series will take place at Daejeon University's Dunsan Campus in Seo-gu and is expected to draw about 100 prospective founders, startups, university students and industry representatives. It is aimed particularly at firms with little experience developing digital medical devices, as well as university laboratories, hospital startup teams and staff at regional clinical trial institutions. The ministry will structure sessions around questions collected from prospective participating companies rather than a standard overview of regulations.

After gathering views from prospective participating companies, the ministry selected regulatory topics that startup founders and young businesses commonly face. Sessions will focus on risk management, clinical trials and usability for digital medical devices.

The ministry said digital medical devices combine AI and software technologies with health care and are a core future industry. It plans to hold tailored regulatory briefings throughout the year to support stable growth for companies entering the market. The ministry said it would "expand regulatory education centered on the Seoul metropolitan area to the regions and continue communicating close to the field."
