Environment ministry to hold AI environmental services roundtable
The environment ministry will bring experts and young people together on Aug. 11 to discuss its AI policy direction and six public-facing environmental services.
The environment ministry said it will convene an Aug. 11 roundtable on developing artificial intelligence-based environmental services for daily life.
The session at the Korea Press Center in Jung-gu, Seoul, will bring together experts, young people and members of the public to review the ministry's policy direction for an artificial intelligence transformation, or AX. It will include introductions to six AI environmental services and a panel discussion.
The ministry said it organized the event to share the achievements of its main AI environmental services and gather views from participants on their development. Discussions will focus on advancing AI-based services and expanding services that people can experience. Young participants, including the head of the ministry's 2030 Youth Advisory Group, will also take part.
Services include autonomously operated AI water-treatment plants, an AI closed-circuit television monitoring system for national rivers, fine-dust forecasts, a system to prevent animal-vehicle collisions, a waste-sorting assistance app and support for rapid commercialization of AI application products.
"Artificial intelligence is contributing not only to raising the efficiency of environmental policy but also to innovating environmental services closely connected to people's daily lives," Yang Hanna, policy planning director at the Ministry of Climate, Energy and Environment, said. "We will continue to expand diverse AI environmental services that the public can experience."
