JTBC enters court receivership after Seoul court ruling
The broadcaster will operate under appointed administrators while creditors file claims through early November, with advertising and program sales driving its revenue mix.
JTBC entered court receivership Friday after the Seoul Reorganization Court issued a decision to commence rehabilitation proceedings on the 28th. The unlisted broadcaster will now restructure its debts under legal supervision.
The court appointed co-CEOs Jin Bae Jeon and Jung Kwon Nam as administrators to manage the company's affairs. Both executives, who previously served as representative directors, will oversee operations while the firm seeks to normalize its financial structure.
Creditors must file claims between Oct. 9 and Nov. 6. The court will then investigate submitted claims from Nov. 7 through Dec. 4 to determine the validity and amount of each obligation before the administrators submit a formal rehabilitation plan by Jan. 29, 2027.
The company's core business operations center on running the comprehensive programming channel JTBC, along with generating revenue from broadcast advertising and the sale of reception fees and programs. In the second quarter of 2026, broadcast channel advertising accounted for 92 billion won, or 48.4% of total sales, while reception fees and program sales contributed 98 billion won, representing 51.6% of the total.
