Showbox posts second-quarter operating profit after year-earlier loss
Showbox recorded a second-quarter operating profit as revenue surged from a year earlier.
Showbox, a content studio whose work spans film investment, production, distribution and rights sales, as well as drama planning and production, posted an operating profit of 12.5 billion won ($8.81 million) in the second quarter, against a 5.48 billion won operating loss a year earlier.
Revenue rose 257.6 percent from the year-earlier quarter to 67.6 billion won ($47.6 million), compared with 18.9 billion won a year earlier.
Film was Showbox's primary revenue source in the first quarter, generating 73.8 billion won ($52 million), or 93.6 percent of revenue. Drama generated 5.01 billion won ($3.53 million), accounting for 6.35 percent.
Showbox distributed Salmokji, which opened on April 8, during the quarter. It also distributed Gunchi, directed by Yeon Sang-ho, which was released on May 21.
Korea's theater market also recovered in the first half. Theater revenue climbed 41.9 percent from a year earlier, according to the Korean Film Council's July 29 report on the first half of 2026.
Showbox said content consumption is increasingly centered on OTT platforms, expanding the range of video formats and changing competitive conditions across the content industry.
