Saemangeum Development Agency adds staff to bolster data security

The Saemangeum Development Agency said it will add one general-service official to its roster under a revised presidential decree aimed at strengthening national data protection. The change raises the agency's total authorized personnel to 138.

The Ministry of the Interior and Safety enacted the amendment to 36 separate laws, citing an urgent need to respond to increased risks of personal information leaks and cyberattacks driven by the rapid expansion of artificial intelligence, cloud computing and platform-based economic activities.

Under the revision, ministries including Economy and Finance, Agriculture, Health, Labor and the Food and Drug Safety Ministry will each receive one additional employee dedicated to information security duties. The Ministry of Justice gains three new positions split between privacy protection and general information security roles, while the Ministry of Foreign Affairs adds one specialist for privacy tasks.

The National Tax Service and the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency will see mixed adjustments combining new hires with transfers from subordinate institutions, whereas the Personal Information Protection Commission will expand its team by five officials focused on both privacy and security mandates. Police authorities will also strengthen their capacity with two new personnel assigned to privacy protection work.
