Customs agency adds three staff to bolster data security

The customs agency said it will increase its workforce by three positions to strengthen personal information and cybersecurity defenses, raising the organization's total staff count from 372 to 375 under a revised presidential decree.

The new roles include one Grade 6 official dedicated to personal information protection and two others focused on general information security at Grades 5 and 6. These additions bring the number of general civil servants within the agency to 374, while the count of officials at Grade 4 or below rises to 364.

The staffing change occurs as part of a simultaneous revision of 36 separate laws and regulations affecting more than 30 government bodies. The Ministry of Economy and Finance, the National Tax Service, the police, and the Personal Information Protection Commission are among the entities receiving similar personnel boosts to handle growing data volumes.

Officials cited the rapid deepening of artificial intelligence services, the spread of cloud computing, and a shift toward platform-based economies as drivers for the overhaul, noting these changes have led to a surge in high-risk personal data processing and increased threats of leaks and cyber intrusions.

Presidential Decree No. 36631, promulgated on August 28, 2026, formalizes the changes across ministries including Foreign Affairs, Justice, and the Ministry of the Interior and Safety.
