Personnel and interior ministries add staff to handle data risks

The Personnel Innovation Service and the Ministry of the Interior and Safety announced a presidential decree revising 36 laws to increase staffing for personal information and cybersecurity protection. The changes take effect Aug. 28 to address data leaks and cyber intrusions driven by artificial intelligence and cloud technologies.

The government cited the deepening integration of AI, the spread of cloud computing, and the shift toward a platform economy as the primary drivers for the overhaul, noting these factors have led to a surge in large-scale, high-risk personal data processing.

"The revisions aim to swiftly respond to personal information leaks and cyber intrusions into government information systems by reinforcing dedicated personnel," the filing states.

Beyond the Personnel Innovation Service, which added two Grade 6 officials, the Ministry of the Interior and Safety received the largest boost with six new positions: four for information security and two for personal data protection. The Ministry of Justice added three staff members, while the National Tax Service saw a net gain of five through a combination of new hires and internal transfers from affiliated agencies. The Personal Information Protection Commission secured five new roles to strengthen oversight.
