Defense ministry creates temporary nuclear-powered submarine policy unit

The defense ministry will establish a temporary 21-person policy planning unit for nuclear-powered submarines through Aug. 14, 2029. The unit will provide a systematic response to policy involving nuclear-powered submarines.

Five positions will be filled by personnel from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, the Ministry of Climate, Energy and Environment, the Defense Acquisition Program Administration and the Nuclear Safety and Security Commission. The staffing plan includes one senior civil-service position, one position at grade 3 or 4, one grade-4 position, two positions at grade 4 or 5, 10 grade-5 positions, two grade-6 positions and four grade-7 positions.

The ministry will also create an information-security policy officer and four director posts under the vice minister, with 25 additional staff assigned to more effectively supervise the Defense Intelligence Agency, Defense Counterintelligence Command and Defense Security Support Group. That increase includes one senior civil-service official, one grade-3 or grade-4 official, two grade-4 officials, one grade-4 or grade-5 official, 10 grade-5 officials, eight grade-6 officials and two grade-7 officials. It will add a separate grade-six official to respond to increasing audit demand.

The enforcement decree of the Defense Industry Technology Protection Act was amended.
