Justice Ministry adds 141 posts for airport immigration work
A revised decree raises the Justice Ministry's authorized staffing by 141 positions for airport immigration functions and deportation management.
The Justice Ministry will add 141 positions to airport immigration operations for passenger screening, automated checks, deportation management and entry reconsideration under a revised organizational decree.
Passenger immigration inspections for airline travelers will get 84 positions, while management of automated immigration screening will get 28 and entry reconsideration work 10. At the Incheon Airport Immigration and Foreigners Office, the ministry will establish a department in Screening Bureau 1 to operate the departure-waiting room and manage deportations. The ministry will assign 19 staff to the department.
The new department will have one Grade 5 official and six officials at each of Grades 6, 7 and 8. The passenger-inspection posts comprise seven Grade 6, 22 Grade 7, 32 Grade 8 and 23 Grade 9 positions. Automated-screening management will receive five Grade 6, nine Grade 7, eight Grade 8 and six Grade 9 posts, while entry reconsideration will receive three Grade 6, six Grade 7 and one Grade 8 post.
The additions raise the Justice Ministry's authorized staffing ceiling to 23,352 from 23,211.
The presidential decree was promulgated on Aug. 11, 2026, after Cabinet deliberation and took effect that day.
