Korean experts win two APEC telecom working group posts

South Korea's science ministry said Friday that two Korean experts have been elected to senior posts in the working groups of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation forum's telecommunications body.

Jang Ju-dong, a researcher at the National Radio Research Agency, was chosen as secretary of the ICT Conformity Assessment and Interoperability Steering Group, known as CISG. Park Jung-eun, a researcher at the Korea Information Society Development Institute, or KISDI, was elected deputy secretary of the ICT Development and Policy Steering Group, or DPSG. Both appointments run for two years, covering 2027 and 2028.

The two posts sit under the APEC Telecommunications and Information Working Group, or TEL, which promotes cooperation on information and communications technology policy and regulation among member economies through three steering groups covering ICT development and policy, ICT security and trust, and ICT conformity assessment and interoperability.

The elections follow the 2024 selection of Kang Ha-yeon, a senior research fellow at KISDI, as a co-chair of APEC TEL for a two-year term spanning 2025 and 2026.

"The continued entry of our experts into key positions at APEC TEL is the result of APEC member economies highly evaluating the experience and expertise that Korea has accumulated in the ICT policy and technology fields," the ministry said.

The ministry said it would strengthen policy and regulatory cooperation with APEC member economies and support Korean companies' entry into overseas markets.
