Interior vice minister inspects Yeosu island expo two weeks before closing

South Korea's interior ministry said Tuesday that Vice Minister Kim Min-jae inspected the Yeosu World Island Expo site, two weeks before the event closes on Nov. 4, and called for a trouble-free finish.

The expo opened on Sept. 5 and runs at a main venue in Yeosu, South Jeolla Province, with secondary sites on Gaedo and Geumodo islands. Kim's visit on Tuesday was his fourth to the site this year.

After being briefed on visitor numbers, event revenue and programming, Kim discussed ways to draw more visitors in the remaining period and to improve conditions at the venue. He asked organizers to review changes to the programme so that it better conveys the value and appeal of Korea's islands.

He then toured exhibition and experience spaces, including the Theme Island pavilion, and checked content added since the opening along with visitor satisfaction. He also examined outdoor areas such as the Island Theme Zone and the Dasumi train, and reviewed hygiene management at food and beverage outlets, including the Dining Market Island and food trucks.

"With only two weeks left before the closing, please do your utmost to the very end so that we can finish on a high note, running even the smallest details with more care from the visitors' point of view," Kim said.

He added that he hoped many people would visit Yeosu in the remaining period and experience the charm of Korea's beautiful islands.

The ministry said the government had worked with local authorities and the organizing committee to check preparations for facilities, transport and disaster safety, and will maintain that cooperative system through the closing.
