Interior ministry names bicycle photo, video contest winners

The interior ministry said Monday it selected 15 winning works in its 2026 bicycle photo and video contest, drawing 581 entries.

Eight photographs and seven videos were chosen from submissions received over 50 days, from June 9 to July 28. The grand prize in the photo category went to "Cherry Blossom Road" by Choi Jun-ho, which shows night-riding safety practices under blossoming trees. Kim Ri-an's "Ready!" took the top excellence award for a child-level shot of a young rider buckling on protective gear before setting off, and Song Dae-gyu's "Our Morning Opened by Bicycle" was among the excellence award winners.

In the video category, the grand prize went to Lee Jung-seop's "Today Is a Day to Ride a Bicycle!," which weaves personal safety rules into an everyday story. Jung Jun-hu's "Let's Ride Safely!" was among the other winners, using a light rhythm and simple slogans to encourage safe riding.

All winners will receive a certificate from the interior minister and Onnuri gift vouchers. The selected works will be posted on the government's Sotong24 portal and the Bike Happiness Sharing website for public viewing. The photo winners will be displayed at government buildings and local government offices and produced as a 2027 calendar for campaigns to encourage bicycle use. The video works will serve as materials for bicycle safety education and policy promotion.

"I thank the public for their great interest in the contest," said Jin Myeong-gi, head of the ministry's autonomous innovation office. "Cycling is the easiest action for practicing carbon neutrality, saving energy and improving health, and we will work to spread a safe cycling culture widely through our society."
