Samsung Electronics unveils two new designs for intelligent eyewear

Samsung Electronics said it unveiled two new designs and additional features for its intelligent eyewear at Galaxy Unpacked 2026 in London. The Android XR-based wearable marks the company's first step toward extending mobile AI beyond the smartphone screen into a familiar glasses form factor.

Choi Won-joon, chief operating officer of Samsung's MX business unit, described the intelligent eyewear as "a new touchpoint that recognizes daily situations to deliver personalized AI assistance without requiring users to pull out their phones."

Leveraging hardware expertise from Galaxy smartphones, the device offers a hands-free interface for Samsung, Google and third-party apps. Users can capture photos or videos, preview results on the connected phone's Now Bar, and access real-time translation while keeping their focus on the immediate environment. The system utilizes split computing, where the connected Galaxy smartphone shares processing loads to optimize performance.

Engineers prioritized weight distribution and thermal management to ensure comfort. A graphite heat-dissipation structure minimizes heat transfer to the wearer's face, while a patented hinge design maintains durability against corrosion and repeated folding. Using computational design data, the team balanced components across the temples so users barely perceive weight differences despite asymmetric internal parts.

The glasses support up to nine hours of use on a single charge during power-intensive tasks like video recording or running generative AI models. A charging case provides more than seven additional full charges, enabling multi-day usage.

Samsung has filed approximately 200 patents related to AI glasses and developed the product in collaboration with eyewear partners Gentle Monster and Warby Parker.

Privacy safeguards include LED indicators on both frames that signal when recording is active. The camera function automatically disables if the glasses are not being worn or if the external indicator is obscured, and personal data collected by the device will not be used to train AI models.
