Posco foundation awards scholarships to 224 high school students

Posco said its charitable arm, the Posco Cheongam Foundation, held certificate award ceremonies for 224 high school students in Pohang and Gwangyang, providing a total of 260 million won in financial aid.

The foundation selected 83 new scholarship recipients from among first-year students at 37 high schools in the two cities, marking a shift in its selection system to support scholars from enrollment through graduation. This year's cohort includes the newcomers alongside 141 continuing students in their second and third years. Each recipient receives a grant of 1 million won.

Beyond the cash grants, each recipient will receive a six-week managed mentoring program to assist with academic planning and career design, as well as consulting services for university admissions.

"The revised selection system enables more long-term and systematic support starting from the point of high school entry," a foundation official said. "Strengthened mentoring and admission consulting would help local youth set concrete goals and fully realize their potential."

The Lighthouse Scholarship project has supported 1,422 students cumulatively since its launch in 2020. The foundation also operates the Posco Vision Scholarship, which provides annual grants of 5 million won to university freshmen from the region until they graduate.
