Interior ministry signs presidential records pact with Kazakhstan

The interior ministry said Tuesday it signed a memorandum of understanding with the Kazakhstan Presidential Archives to expand cooperation on managing presidential records. The deal focuses on strengthening digital management capabilities from record production to long-term preservation and utilization.

The partnership was launched as part of a broader cooperation project in records management driven by the first Korea-Central Asia Summit, scheduled for September 16 and 17.

Under the terms, the two institutions will share best practices regarding policies and legal frameworks for presidential records and exchange digital copies of historical documents related to each nation's history. Technical cooperation will cover the production, storage, long-term preservation and protection of digital content and electronic records, including joint research on mutually agreed topics and the hosting of exhibitions, academic conferences and seminars.

Han Seong-won, head of the Presidential Archives, stated that the agreement would elevate cultural exchange with Kazakhstan, a key hub in Central Asia. "We will strengthen the digital management capabilities of both countries' presidential records through diverse information exchanges and sharing of the latest technologies, from the production of presidential records to the preservation and utilization of electronic records," Han said.

Aliya Mustafina, director of the Kazakhstan Presidential Archives, is the counterpart to the agreement.
