Interior ministry launches migration of 50 public systems to private cloud

The interior ministry said Wednesday it will begin migrating 50 administrative and public information systems to private cloud environments, targeting government websites and simple information services that can be transferred quickly without a separate informatization strategy plan.

Officials plan to complete the phased transition by the first quarter of 2027. To reduce the financial burden on public institutions, the ministry will cover both the migration costs and private cloud usage fees through that year.

The measure follows the AI Government Infrastructure Governance and Innovation Promotion Direction announced by the National AI Strategy Committee in February.

Future selections for migration will consider security ratings under National Intelligence Service guidelines, with the scope expected to expand next year through consultations with relevant agencies.

Hwang Gyu-cheol, head of the ministry's AI Government Office, said the department will do its best to ensure a seamless transition so citizens experience no inconvenience using public services, adding that incorporating private expertise will lay the foundation for faster and more convenient administrative services.
