Health ministry to keep emergency medical system running 24 hours during Chuseok
An average of 8,294 clinics and pharmacies will remain open daily throughout the holiday weekend.
The health ministry said Monday it will maintain a 24-hour emergency medical system throughout the Chuseok holiday from Sept. 24 to 27. A total of 416 emergency medical institutions will operate around the clock during the four-day period.
Including clinics and health centers, an average of 3,495 facilities plus 4,383 pharmacies will be available each day, bringing the daily total to 8,294 medical sites across the country.
Seventeen regional trauma centers and 29 regional cardiovascular and cerebrovascular disease centers will also maintain 24-hour operations, supported by a dispatch system of doctor helicopters and ambulances dedicated to transporting critical patients.
Lee Joong-gyu, the ministry's public healthcare policy officer, urged residents with minor symptoms to visit nearby local clinics first so emergency room staff can focus on treating critically ill patients.
"We will do our utmost to operate the emergency medical system so that people can spend the Chuseok holiday safely," Lee said.
