Finance ministry says June tax revenue rises on securities and income gains
National tax collections for the first half of 2026 reached 223 trillion won.
The finance ministry said Friday that national tax revenue in June rose 5.5 trillion won from a year earlier to 23.1 trillion won, citing increases in securities transaction taxes and income taxes as primary drivers.
Securities transaction taxes contributed an additional 1.2 trillion won, fueled by a surge in listed stock trading values and the restoration of the tax rate to 0.05 percent for KOSPI listings. The rural special tax climbed by 1.7 trillion won alongside this growing KOSPI activity.
Income tax collections grew by 1.4 trillion won due to higher wage payments and increased housing transaction volumes. Corporate tax revenue added another 400 billion won, partly due to extended filing deadlines for March settlements.
Value-added tax and customs duties each increased by 400 billion won and 200 billion won respectively, driven by a rise in import values. While inheritance, individual consumption, and comprehensive real estate taxes each gained 100 billion won, the transportation, energy, and environment tax fell by 100 billion won.
Cumulative national tax revenue for the first six months totaled 223 trillion won, a 33 trillion won increase from last year, representing 53.7 percent of the full-year budget target of 390.2 trillion won. The government cited domestic demand-led economic recovery and efforts to secure tax revenue as the background for these figures.
