Labor ministry hosts financial sector job fair for disabled youth

The labor ministry said Wednesday it hosted a financial sector job fair aimed at helping disabled university students and young job seekers navigate employment opportunities. The event, titled "FIN x CON," took place at Korea University on Sept. 16 as a follow-up to a work agreement signed in March to expand disability hiring within the industry.

Organized jointly with the Financial Supervisory Service, Korea Employment Agency for the Disabled, various financial associations and Korea University, the event featured major firms including Industrial Bank of Korea, Shinhan Bank, Hana Securities, Hanwha Investment & Securities, Seoul Guarantee Insurance, Mirae Asset Life Insurance and Korea Development Bank. Representatives explained specific job roles and recruitment processes, answering questions from job seekers.

Current employees with disabilities shared personal experiences regarding job preparation, job adaptation and career building.

Kwak Bum-jun, vice president of the Financial Supervisory Service, said the event offers financial institutions a chance to meet talented individuals while providing job seekers with concrete information on recruitment channels. He added that his organization will continue to listen to field feedback and support disability employment in the sector.

Ryu Jeong-jin, executive director of employment promotion at the Korea Employment Agency for the Disabled, emphasized connecting capable talent with suitable positions to broaden access. She stated her agency would support job preparation, development and recruitment design to ensure these meetings lead to actual hiring.

A working group established under the initial agreement plans to launch an idea challenge involving financial sector employees to discover job roles matching field needs. The group intends to link outstanding ideas with professional consulting and customized training while monitoring hiring conditions.
