Korea Intellectual Property Office highlights regional firm growth at policy meeting

The Korea Intellectual Property Office said Thursday that securing intellectual property rights transforms technology and trademarks into growth assets driving commercialization and exports.

Kim Il-gyu, director of the Intellectual Property Policy Bureau, made the remark while hosting the 18th Regional Intellectual Property Policy Council at Sonobel Jeju on Aug. 27. About 70 officials from local governments and regional centers attended.

"Securing intellectual property rights for a company's technology and trademarks becomes a growth asset that increases corporate value during commercialization, investment, and export processes," Kim said. "As such corporate sales, employment, and market expansion lead directly to regional economic growth, we will strengthen the support system so local companies can utilize the professional assistance of regional IP centers in the field through cooperation with local governments."

Cosat, a Jeju-based company producing functional materials from citrus byproducts, presented its growth trajectory as a primary success case. The firm utilized staged support programs to increase annual revenue from 3 million won in 2021 to approximately 1.49 billion won in 2025 while entering foreign markets.
