Land ministry expands toll discounts to leased vehicles for veterans and disabled

The revision takes effect immediately to cover non-commercial cars rented for at least one year by eligible groups.

The land ministry on Tuesday revised rules to extend expressway toll discounts to leased vehicles used by multi-child families, national veterans and people with disabilities. The update aligns enforcement guidelines with a presidential decree promulgated the same day that broadened eligibility beyond owned cars.

Under the amended Toll Road Act Enforcement Rules, qualifying households may now receive fare reductions on one non-commercial passenger car or a van seating up to 12 people that is rented or facility-leased for a period of one year or longer.

To claim the benefit, applicants must submit a copy of the lease or facility rental contract alongside their application for an identification tag or electronic registration.

The ministry said the change addresses the diversification of vehicle usage patterns among beneficiaries, who increasingly rely on rental services rather than ownership, aiming to enhance the effectiveness of the support system.

The revised rules took effect immediately upon their announcement on July 28.
