National Science Museum opens adult science college enrollment

The National Central Science Museum said Tuesday it will accept applications for its 65th Science Culture College, a specialized education program for general adults. The museum plans to operate the course from Sept. 10 to Dec. 3.

This semester's curriculum includes ten lectures covering recent heat waves alongside scientific cultural assets from the Three Kingdoms period. Sixty selected participants will also take two field trips linked to the lecture content.

Admission is open to adults with an interest in Korean science, history and culture. The program changed its name from the Traditional Science College in the second half of last year to diversify its themes beyond historical topics.

A new "Museum Invitation Week" established earlier this year will continue during the second half, allowing regional lifelong learning centers and welfare facilities to apply for group participation. The initiative invites twenty to forty students from partner institutions to attend.

Lee Eun-young, director of the National Central Science Museum, said the college provides high-quality science education opportunities often difficult for adults past their teenage years to access. "We will continue to support efforts to broaden understanding of scientific principles embedded in our history and daily life," Lee added.

Registration runs from Aug. 27 to Sept. 4 via the integrated reservation system on the museum's website. Tuition is set at 120,000 won excluding field trip fees.
