The Ministry of Science and ICT said on Aug. 6 it would invest more than 60 billion won this year to accelerate deployment of products and services using Korean AI semiconductors.

It will convene a kickoff meeting for 22 new projects across three programs to develop Korean AI semiconductor-based products and services through the end of 2027.

Seven projects will focus on physical AI, including applications in living and safety fields by the end of 2027.

Among them are a four-legged fire-safety robot designed to recognize fire sources and fight fires with a smart water cannon, and a mobile dual-arm robot for sorting and moving irregular cargo.

The initiative also includes plans for an on-device AI city safety network to detect river flooding and urban inundation risks and provide on-site alerts in real time.

"Demonstrations based on Korean AI semiconductors will be an important foundation for companies to accelerate AI convergence across all sectors," said Park Tae-wan, director general for information and communications industry policy.
