The interior ministry said Monday it will fully adopt AI-friendly report writing after a March trial cut time spent on report formatting and improved accuracy in using AI to summarize materials and prepare presentation materials.

The ministry said it will use the rollout to raise AI use across the public sector and improve administrative efficiency. "AI-friendly document writing is an administrative innovation that fundamentally changes the way civil servants work, and a digital innovation that turns government reports into high-quality text that AI can use," Minister Yoon Ho-joong said.

Based on the trial results and AI's improved ability to recognize documents, the ministry streamlined its guidelines around core principles to make document preparation easier for staff. The change extends the approach to reports for department and bureau directors. The guidelines call for narrative sentences, standardized item markers and simple cell merging. Titles and sequence markers should go above tables and graphics, without visual embellishment.

During the trial, the ministry also provided press releases in Markdown, a document format AI can easily understand, to improve search convenience. It is expanding use of its OnAI intelligent work-management platform.
