Labor ministry supports Woori Financial youth IT academy

The labor ministry said Tuesday it was supporting Woori Financial Group's financial IT academy for young people.

The ministry said the program uses hands-on experience in financial IT jobs to build trainees' understanding of those roles and confidence in finding work. Sixty selected trainees attended the opening ceremony at Woori Bank headquarters, where Lim Young-mi, employment policy chief at the Ministry of Employment and Labor, congratulated the academy's launch and encouraged the trainees.

"This academy will be a dependable stepping stone for young people to build financial IT skills and enter the workforce," Park Je-seong, Woori Financial's head of management support, said. "Beyond simply providing educational support, we will continue to stand by them after completion so they can establish themselves as financial AI specialists."

Eight Woori Financial Group affiliates, including Woori Bank and Woori Card, provide the program. Each provides role-specific training alongside mentoring from current employees, site visits and practical exercises.

The academy is part of the K-New Deal Academy, under which large companies design and operate business-specific vocational training and other programs to strengthen young people's capabilities and support their entry into the labor market.

"The K-New Deal Academy is a policy where young people's efforts are matched by support from government and companies so everyone can grow together," Lim said.
