Labor ministry announces Hyundai Jecheol disability employment pact
The agreement pairs job development and vocational training with monitoring and follow-up management.
The labor ministry said Friday that Hanguk Jangaein Goyong Gongdan and steelmaker Hyundai Jecheol signed a memorandum of understanding on Aug. 21 at Hyundai Jecheol's Pangyo office building to promote employment of people with disabilities and create a stable employment environment.
The agreement is part of Hyundai Jecheol's effort to practice ESG management through the employment of people with disabilities, the ministry said. The MOU calls for the two sides to identify suitable jobs, increase hiring and build a sustainable employment environment.
The agency will develop positions suited to people with disabilities and propose employment models for Hyundai Jecheol. It will recommend candidates, support vocational training and monitor employees' adjustment, while providing follow-up management and linking employment-support systems.
"We hope this agreement will provide an opportunity to offer more quality jobs to people with disabilities," Lee Jong-seong of the agency said.
"Employment of people with disabilities is an important value in fulfilling social responsibility," Seo Sang-won, vice president for management support at Hyundai Jecheol, said. "Through close cooperation with the agency, we will create a work environment where people with disabilities can demonstrate their capabilities and take the lead in continuously expanding their employment."
