National Data Office reports June online shopping growth

June online shopping transactions rose 10.7 percent from a year earlier, with mobile accounting for 76.9 percent of transactions.

The National Data Office said that online shopping transactions rose 10.7 percent in June from a year earlier, lifted by purchases of communications devices, automobiles and auto parts, and food and beverages.

The total reached 24.6 trillion won. Communications-device transactions rose 144.4 percent on the year.

Automobile and auto-parts transactions increased 56.8 percent, while food and beverage purchases rose 10.4 percent. Clothing transactions fell 1.5 percent.

Food services accounted for 14.7 percent of online shopping transactions, followed by food and beverages at 13.6 percent and travel and transport services at 11.3 percent.

Mobile shopping generated 18.9 trillion won, up 9.8 percent from a year earlier and representing 76.9 percent of online transactions, 0.7 percentage point below the share a year earlier. Food services accounted for 18.9 percent of mobile shopping, followed by food and beverages at 14.4 percent and travel and transport services at 10.7 percent.

The online shopping figures cover both PC- and mobile-based transactions and are calculated at current prices. The two most recent months of data are preliminary and may be revised.
