Culture Ministry appoints Kim Eun-ha as Gugak Broadcasting president

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism on Aug. 6 appointed Kim Eun-ha, Gugak Broadcasting's director of broadcasting and acting president since 2025, as president of the public cultural broadcaster, the ministry said.

Kim received an appointment certificate from Minister Choi Hwi-young on Thursday and will serve a three-year term as the broadcaster's new head.

Kim joined Gugak Broadcasting in 2000 and went on to work in its radio production department, its Gwangju regional broadcaster and its audit office.

Her previous positions include a 2016-17 secondment as head of the Gwangju broadcaster, a 2021 role as broadcasting commissioner in radio production, and chief of the department in 2023.

Kim became director of broadcasting in 2024 before taking the acting presidency in 2025. The ministry credited her with contributing to the broadcaster's stable organizational management during that time.

Choi Hwi-young, the minister of culture, sports and tourism, said, "I expect Kim to lead innovation at Gugak Broadcasting in a changing media environment, based on the extensive experience and expertise she has built in broadcasting."

Born in 1967, Kim graduated from National Gugak High School in 1986. She holds a master's degree from Ewha Womans University's graduate school and a bachelor's degree in Korean traditional music from the university. She has been an adjunct professor in the Korean Music Department at Seoul Arts University since 2023.

Founded in 2001, Gugak Broadcasting promotes traditional Korean music through broadcasts and supports the traditional Korean music cultural industry. It is headquartered in Seoul and maintains regional stations in Gwangju and Daejeon.
