Patent Tribunal to start immediate hearing-recording service

The Patent Tribunal will launch an on-site service that gives parties and representatives recordings of oral hearings immediately after they end.

The service is scheduled to start Aug. 24, 2026. Until now, parties and representatives could not request recordings at the venue and waited more than a week after a hearing.

Under the new process, they submit a request form and pay a prescribed fee after an oral hearing, then receive the recording on a storage medium at the venue.

"The on-site issuance service for oral-hearing recordings is a system to help parties and representatives prepare more quickly for proceedings," Kim Gibeom, head of the Patent Tribunal, said. "We will continue to actively reflect tribunal users' views and provide convenient and efficient tribunal services."

Oral hearings are proceedings in which parties and representatives appear before tribunal judges to present arguments and explain disputed issues. The tribunal provides recordings so parties and representatives can review statements and issues raised during a hearing and use them in preparing written submissions.
