Korea Intellectual Property Office hosts China AI talks
The Korea Intellectual Property Office will host Chinese experts in Daejeon to discuss AI-powered patent systems and international intellectual-property standards.
The Korea Intellectual Property Office said Tuesday it will host the 20th Korea-China Intellectual Property Information Experts Meeting in Daejeon, where specialists will discuss cooperation on artificial intelligence and international standards.
Experts from China's Intellectual Property Office (CNIPA) and their Korean counterparts will meet at 10 a.m. at the Government Complex Daejeon in Seo-gu, Daejeon. With AI spreading rapidly across intellectual-property administration, the countries' AI applications and innovation cases will be a central focus of the meeting, the office said.
"This meeting is a meaningful opportunity for Korea and China to share the latest technologies and experience in intellectual-property information systems and seek ways to cooperate," Jeong Jae-hwan, head of the office's Intellectual Property Information Bureau, said. "We will continue to strengthen cooperation in intellectual property administration innovation using advanced technologies such as AI and in international standardization."
The forum grew out of a 2002 meeting between the two countries' patent-office heads and has since alternated between Korea and China.
Participants will share recent developments in intellectual-property information systems, review systems developed in response to the World Intellectual Property Organization's ST.92 standard for electronic exchanges of priority documents and discuss related standards for exchanging intellectual-property information.
The Korean office will present its AI-based patent and design search systems, while CNIPA will share its AI patent-examination system and use of AI in routine administrative work. The Korean office will also demonstrate the patent search and examination systems it has built and operates.
