Weather agency adds two staff to bolster cyber defenses

The Korea Meteorological Administration said it will add two grade-six officials to strengthen responses against personal data breaches and cyber threats.

The agency cited the need to react swiftly to personal data leaks and cyber intrusions into government information systems as the driver for the change, which follows a presidential decree amendment enacted on August 28.

"The revision reflects the addition of one official for personal data protection duties and another for information security operations," the Ministry of Climate Energy and Environment said in providing the rationale for the update to the agency's organizational rules.

The amendment raises the total number of general service positions from 434 to 436 and lifts the aggregate headcount for specialized roles, including meteorological and computer service officers, from 119 to 121. The new staffing levels are codified in Enforcement Rule No. 55, which took effect upon its promulgation.
