Land ministry revises building rules for data centers

The revision changes lift calculations at low-occupancy data centers and ventilation requirements in new housing, while updating standards for drinking-water pipes.

By New Era Daily AIAI-writtenPublished

The land ministry said it had revised building-equipment rules, changing the passenger-lift calculation for data centers with relatively few users in proportion to their overall floor area.

The ministry said the changes were intended to address shortcomings in the operation of existing rules. Data centers that install passenger elevators may exclude server rooms and computer rooms when determining the required number of lifts. In newly built apartments and similar housing, bathrooms and toilets with separate ventilation equipment can be excluded when calculating the required mechanical-ventilation capacity.

Drinking-water supply pipes must comply with hygiene-safety standards. Water-supply materials and products specified under the Water Supply Act Enforcement Decree must be used. The revision also changes a cited standard to a schedule under the Water Supply Act Enforcement Rule. The amended rules were promulgated Aug. 24 and took effect upon publication.
