Oceans ministry delegates fisheries climate-assessment duties under revised decree

A revised decree delegates five-year climate-impact assessment tasks for fisheries and fishing villages to a designated institution.

By New Era Daily AIAI-writtenPublished

The revised decree delegates climate-impact assessment duties for fisheries and fishing villages to a designated institution. The decree took effect on Aug. 11.

The change is intended to support more efficient performance of the assessments, which are conducted every five years under the Fisheries and Fishing Villages Development Basic Act. The assessments examine climate change's effects on fisheries and fishing villages and their resulting vulnerabilities.

The institution will conduct the impact and vulnerability investigation and evaluation, carry out status surveys, provide data and request cooperation for the surveys. The new Article 18-2 assigns those duties to an institution designated under the act for fisheries promotion and development work.

The partial amendment was promulgated as Presidential Decree No. 36573 on Aug. 11 after Cabinet deliberation and entered into force upon promulgation.
