Samyang Packaging operating profit rises 22 percent

Samyang Packaging, which makes PET containers and provides aseptic beverage OEM services, recorded second-quarter operating profit of 17 billion won ($11.9 million), up 22 percent from a year earlier, even as net income declined.

Revenue climbed 9.5 percent to 131 billion won ($92 million), while net income fell 0.2 percent to 13.6 billion won ($9.49 million), compared with the year-earlier quarter. Pretax profit from continuing operations rose 6.5 percent from a year earlier to 15.2 billion won ($10.7 million).

About half of the company's beverage sales are concentrated in the summer months, while the high season for PET bottle demand runs from March through September, typically one to two months ahead of peak beverage demand.

The aseptic business focuses on ready-to-drink beverages that use functional, premium and differentiated raw materials, which the company identifies as a core growth area. Samyang Packaging plans to expand its position as a higher-value OEM and ODM partner. It is increasing supplies of large-volume PET coffee as demand grows and widening its aseptic beverage line into functional drinks.

"In 2026, we will strengthen our position in core markets by offering products and services that more closely meet customer needs and by identifying strategic demand, and we will solidify our leading market position across all business areas, including aseptic beverages, containers and recycling," Kim Jae-hong, Samyang Packaging's chief executive, said.

Its 2026 management policy focuses on recovering market share and improving cost competitiveness to build a foundation for renewed growth. The PET container division faces structural oversupply and fierce competition, and Samyang Packaging is investing to optimize its production structure. In recycling, it plans to secure volume and link the business to its aseptic beverage and container operations.
