Deputy Prime Minister Gu Yun-cheol checks heatwave response in Changsin-dong small-room neighborhood
Deputy Prime Minister Gu Yun-cheol toured services and facilities in the Seoul neighborhood as a severe heatwave warning remained in effect.
Jaejeonggyeongjebu said Friday that Deputy Prime Minister Gu Yun-cheol visited Changsin-dong's small-room neighborhood in Jongno-gu, Seoul, on Aug. 7 to review living conditions and heatwave measures for residents vulnerable to intense summer heat.
The ministry said the visit was arranged to assess residents' health and living conditions as a severe heatwave warning remained in effect and sustained hot weather continued. Gu stopped at the fourth Warmth Warehouse, which provides daily necessities and cooling supplies, and heard about its use by residents. He checked communal air conditioners and cooling-fog systems, then visited the home of an elderly person living alone to ask about the resident's health, use of cooling facilities and difficulties in daily life. He urged the resident to use communal air conditioners and heat shelters when heat becomes especially severe, including during heatwave warnings.
At a neighborhood counseling center, Gu inspected a heat shelter, bathing facilities and other amenities, then thanked staff for regularly checking on residents and maintaining shared facilities during the summer. “Summer is hot for everyone, but it is even harsher for vulnerable groups such as residents of small-room neighborhoods,” Gu said. “The government will continue to provide attention and support so that people vulnerable to heatwaves can safely get through the severe summer heat.”
